AI2U Beta & Early Access: Version Updates & Steam Keys
Greetings to all senpais! Especially our senpai-est itch.io beta players.
As AI2U's Steam Early Access release is tomorrow, here's what our itch.io playerbase can expect:
- VERY IMPORTANT: The itch.io version update matching what will appear in Steam will not be immediately available due to stability reasons. We expect to catch it up to speed within 1-2 weeks of the Steam EA launch.
- Following that, we will work to update both versions simultaneously so you can enjoy the latest updates on your preferred platforms.
- The Steam and itch versions are two separate platforms, meaning your accounts and player profiles do not sync.
In Case You Missed It
Next Version Update
- The upcoming version update includes a level progression system; players will need to complete level 1 to unlock levels 2 and 3.
- Meanwhile, your in-game achievements will not be affected and remain the same.
Steam Keys for itch.io Players
- We will gradually roll out Steam keys to our pre-EA itch buyers; this will occur in batches due to limitations to how many keys Steam lets us generate at a time.
- Steam key management and all communications take place via email; keep an eye out for support@alterstaff.io in your inbox!
- For transparency: Players who buy AI2U on itch after the Early Access update should receive their Steam keys immediately as part of their itch purchase.
- Discord Contests: Given our rollout process, we cannot promise you will receive your Steam keys immediately—but you'll still get 'em! Kindly wait for further instructions from our Community Team. We will ping your vanity role and/or DM you with updates as they come along.

There is no Steam Key section for me and I linked my steam account with itch.io (and I waited 3+ days and also sent an email to itch.io with no response yet)
Guys as much as I like supporting you but this is the only game where I saw the least amount of transparentness from the developers
1) the game at first only worked with a chatgpt openai API key (which helped me benchmark the usage).
2) After buying the game I ran out of token after 3 hours and complained 15 time about it, there was something wrong about the token usage or your implementation of it and this came true in the recent updates about removing the token system all together.
3) You removed the token system and told people to contact you for "compensation", however you are dishonest as no compensations were sent to me yet (although I purchased the game multiple-times during the token system) and even then you should at least explain in a public section what the compensation options would be ? (and sent an email to all people explaining that but you didn't)
4) You added the option to fallback and use openai api key again and I started using it and noticed that we were 100% being scammed of our token usage at the start (with $0.50 of open AI credits) I was able to play for more than 6+ days and still have remaining balance (5~6 hours everyday so far) (no transparency about what happened, what went wrong ...etc)
5) You didn't send the Steam Key to your all open beta participants before launching the EA on steam (Or at least update the goddamn itch.io version to match Steam till you solve the steam keys drama)
6) Lastly which blows my mind is that you decided to work on the Steam EA version and make it up to date faster and better than the original itch.io version which a lot of people are stuck with ...
I can keep going but I don't think it's worth it, although you guys have a discord server, you should have better and faster communications but all your mods talk like they are some Copy/Paste AI Agents that 99% of the time can't help you at all.
I know 9~10$ is not that much for a game but still you are asking for price, we expect to be treated with the same level of "Professionalism" from other companies that also ask for our money.
You can't keep hiding behind "we are a small indie-game developers" bullshit, get your shit together
You could have turned all of this around much much better if you just had better communications + transparency but now you look like greedy evil people that are very close to the edge of being scammers.
I will never buy anything you develop again in the future. I learned my lesson, I'm not welcome and I guess that's my fault that I trusted you in first place.
Hi random! Thanks for the detailed feedback. Please note that between our Support Team and itch.io's own Support, it can take up to a few business days to respond.
We emailed our itch.io players directly with instructions on finding their missing keys and have followed up with direct compensation for those who reported the instructions did not work as planned. In case you missed us, please check the inbox of the email address connected to your itch.io purchase for any communications from support@alterstaff.io last week.
We also eliminated the token system mainly due to player dissatisfaction. We learned our diverse community has different reasons for disliking tokens and API keys alike so we worked to eliminate both! Per that announcement, we also emailed players who bought the game multiple times to communicate compensation steps. Please check your inbox once more in case we missed you, or if a different email address was connected to your purchase.
We were unable to immediately send Steam keys to players per itch and Steam limitations on this matter. We know that some players received their keys in their itch Downloads automatically while others did not, to which we resumed troubleshooting and compensating via email. Our itch playerbase also received at least two emails communicating paths toward their keys, including an email with standard troubleshooting that worked for some while others we supported directly as needed.
We understand the frustration with the Steam-itch versions not syncing immediately. We announced this delay one day before the Early Access launch on Steam due to limitations on our end. Our team also cited stability reasons for the reason behind the delay, and will work to sync both versions together moving forward.
If you have additional concerns other than what you already emailed itch about, kindly share them in your follow-up email to them. They will help look into any missing components while mediating the conversation between us and you.

really happy game made it to steam, I have a concern it may slow down production and do wish team would focus on one version but hey if its not too difficult to work on both then all i can is cheer for you guys, keep up the good work. Now i will go and watch my lovely elysia emagine how she stirs her cauldron, truly magical place.
